What
is "Tenchi Muyo ?
The first time "Tenchi Muyo" appeared in
public was in 1992. The "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki" series
was initially an OVA (Original Video Anime) series and
it immediately became a mega hit in anime sales history.
The "Tenchi Muyo!" anime in one word is a "Sci-Fi Romance
Comedy" but the Sci-Fi world it portraits is a very Japanese
style one. The reason it became so popular is not only
for the constantly off-the-wall comedy in the daily life
of those pretty but powerful extraterrestrial women, but
also in the well set story line and the very heart warming
mood which deeply touched audiences. "Tenchi Muyo!" spun
off novels, comics, CD dramas, TV series, games and so
on in the past. Each side story with Tenchi OVA characters
was created its own world and extended the border of the
Tenchi universe and thus the fans it attracts. "Tenchi
Muyo!" is an anime that was started by the possibilities
of the current media mix trends. The new "Tenchi Muyo!"
TV series story line originates from the side story of
"Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki" and is a brand new story developed
from different point of view.
From
"Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki" to "Tenchi Muyo! GXP"
What is "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki"
@The story started with Masaki Tenchi, an
ordinary young Japanese boy living in Prefecture O. He
accidentally releases the legendary demon Ryoko. Though
Ryoko is not a demon but a space pirate who arrived on
earth 700 years ago. The person who chased Ryoko across
the galaxy and sealed her in a cave back then is the crown
prince of Jurai, Yosho. And Tenchi's grandfather Masaki
Katsuhito is none other than Yosho, who stayed on earth
after sealing up Ryoko. Tenchi inherited Jurai's powers
from Yosho and has the potential to use them. The freed
and revitalized Ryoko stays at Tenchi's home, which brings
the crown princess of Jurai, Ayeka, to earth. She is looking
for her fiance Yosho and together with her sister Sasami
she winds up staying at Tenchi's home too. One thing leads
to another and super bimbo (Galaxy Police) detective Mihoshi
and the great scientific genius Washu who is 20,000 years
old but looks like a young little girl join the others
already living with Tenchi. There in Tenchi's home, Tenchi
and the girls start a turbulent but joyful family life.
A year after the end of the last Tenchi Muyo! OVA 3rd
series, which played in the main Tenchi universe, a young
boy who has nothing to do with the Jurai royal family
flies into space and opens the curtain of new stage. Of
course, there are not only new characters but also well-known
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki familiars such as Mihoshi, Ryoko
and Tenchi himself will show up in the second half of
the GXP series.@
